My project focuses on my relationship with, and how I collaborate with a material I use in my work: ink. I explored the origins of ink use and its significance in history. Simultaneously, I considered  “Is the anthropocene epoch a warning to think more ethically about the materials we use?”

This over-arching consideration influenced both my process and project outcomes. Based on my research and development of ideas, I created a series of art works representing six periods in history where the use of ink was significant.  My goal was to be as sustainable and ethical as possible in my approach, so I created my own inks, tools and used biodegradable, compostable paper. Influenced by Gustav Metzger and his auto destructive art, my final installation involved placing my work outside to react to the elements and degrade naturally. My ultimate intention was for my project to leave no trace behind.
