As a new generation of designers have emerged from the Anthropocene, we have a duty to ensure that our fashion has a minimal impact on our planet. Within the western world we live in an era that fuels micro trends and fast fashion, with the new quick to replace the old. Therefore, in this project I wanted to explore some of the ancient traditions used in the design and manufacture of Indian garments, drawing on my own mixed heritage as a backdrop. I wanted to establish whether a more sustainable approach to fashion could be achieved by using my chosen themes of slow fashion and longevity of fabric, as I decided to blend the western world and ancient techniques, merging the old and new, to create a versatile piece that would allow me to promote sustainability in an everchanging world.
