Ines Guthrie Link The Textile Age

Over the past month I have been exploring the possibility of mending deep set ageist views in fashion. I have created a line of age friendly garments, using traditional methods of textile manufacture in conjunction with modern, recycled materials. My passion for this issue comes from watching how my family members respond to fashion as they grow older and how they lose their sense of comfort and belonging at such a rapid pace. My project work and research branched from an eye opening conversation I had with my granny. She explained that when she was growing up the volume of waste people produced was extremely little. Everything was utilised, reusable and built to last. I aimed to bring back these past attitudes and combat the modern clothing waste crisis by working with only recycled garments and scrap materials to make textiles for use in fashion pieces that would value quality over quantity.
