We now exist in an era known as the “anthropocene”- a geological age where human influence and activity is having a significant impact on climate change. It is more crucial than ever to understand how architecture can reduce carbon emissions by paying meticulous attention to material choice and carefully considering how and where construction takes place. My design intent explores and uses new and old building techniques. By using mycelium and timber as the main components it’s possible to make a biodegradable building that can provide nutrients back into the soil at the end of its life and give something back to mother earth.
