Ailsa Hutton Link Mackintosh School of Architecture

Through research and exploration of architectural designs from different time periods and cultures, I have recognised potential advantages to loose-fit designs (mainly used in vernacular architecture as one building had lots of different uses). I want to explore how 21st Century Architecture could learn from vernacular designs in order to increase the circular economy of buildings; also taking into consideration how loose-fit buildings would affect the comfort and health of the individuals living/working there. Can the 3 pillars of architecture (Durability, usefulness and beauty) still be used in relation to this architectural method, or do we need to question if those values are still relevant to the needs of today.
