During the project I researched and analysed a series of houses from different time periods, taking great interest in how they were adapted and represented the zeitgeist. For my creative process two buildings were most influential, the pre-industrial Scottish Blackhouse and post-industrial Rogers House.

The project highlighted to me the to be responsible in the age of the Anthropocene architecture should follow the principles of longevity, efficiency and locality. I investigated this in a design for a house set in the Scottish Highlands. Bringing the qualities of both buildings together to maintain the rustic nature of the Blackhouse, keeping the connection to the land and local materials whilst making the house more light and airy, inspired by the Rogers House, to design a Neo-vernaculur contemporary Blackhouse .
