In response to the brief of “Being Human in the Anthropocene”, I carried out research on various buildings throughout three periods of architecture. For my statement of intent, my aim was to compile all of my knowledge together, to then propose a potential sustainable redesign of one of the buildings.
E-1027 House is one of the most exemplary buildings of the post-industrial period, however, to many the structure does not fully compute in regards to nature and the environment as the structure is fully made out of concrete. Gray stated she desired to design a home that associated the natural elements around her but instead placed a large concrete building on the docks of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. My objective was to apply modest changes to the building in order for it to be more sustainable, without taking away the iconic features the villa possesses.
