For my project I was inspired by the Post-human lecture and this idea that the meaning of being human is changing in a world where life is becoming increasingly automated and our relationship with technology is becoming more intense. I found the documentary, ‘Glasgow 1980’ on the Moving Image Archive that wanted to think about Glasgow 9 years into the future. It cut between various images of the modern architecture in the city: high rise buildings, educational centres and shopping complexes; as well as development in the city’s infrastructure. It also focused on how the changes to the city would affect its inhabitants: following a housewife doing a weekly shop and how her role could change in a more futuristic context. I found the idea of building a utopia interesting when in contrast to the eerie, dystopian stills displayed throughout the film.  I wanted my work to reflect this atmosphere of change and technological advancement while questioning its effects on our collective identity as humans.
